Training

Four programs, one standard

Everything here is coached in person. Class times change with the season, so call the gym for the current schedule and we will tell you which session to come to first.

  • A worn pair of red leather boxing gloves hanging from a hook on a dark wall

    01

    Boxing Training

Beginners welcome. Stance, guard, footwork, and punching mechanics taught the way they get taught in a fight gym.

You learn to box. Shadow work, bag work, mitts, and conditioning, coached by people who competed. Beginners start at the beginning and nobody gets thrown in over their head.

Who it is for: New boxers, returning boxers, and anyone who wants the real skill, not a themed workout.

  • Kettlebells and medicine balls lined up along the wall of a dark training floor

    02

    Group Fitness

Beginners welcome. Coached sessions in a room full of people doing the same hard thing at the same time.

Boxing-built strength and conditioning in a group setting. You get the accountability of a class with a coach watching your form instead of a screen counting your reps.

Who it is for: Anyone who trains better with other people in the room.

  • Coiled battle ropes on a rubber gym floor beside a loaded weight sled

    03

    HIIT

Beginners welcome. Short rounds, honest rest, measurable conditioning.

Interval work built on the round structure boxers already live by. Ropes, sleds, bags, and bodyweight. You will be able to tell it is working by month two.

Who it is for: People short on time who still want a session that asks something of them.

  • An agility ladder, cones and a speed rope laid out on a dark turf training strip

    04

    Athletic Performance

Beginners welcome. Speed, agility, and power work for athletes with a season to get ready for.

Ladder and cone work, acceleration, change of direction, and strength that carries over to the sport you actually play.

Who it is for: Competitive athletes, youth and adult.

Questions

What people ask first

Do I need any boxing experience to start?
No. Most people who walk in have never thrown a real punch. You get taught stance and guard first, the same as everyone else did.
Do I need my own gloves and wraps?
Call before your first session and ask. Gear needs vary by program, and we would rather tell you straight than have you buy the wrong thing.
Is this only for people who want to compete?
No. Competitors train here, and so do people whose only goal is to get fit and feel capable. The coaching adjusts to the goal.
Do you train kids?
Yes. Youth outreach and youth athletic performance are part of what the gym does. Call for current age groups and times.
How do I book a session right now?
Pick a class on the Book page and reserve your spot online, or call (760) 669-7281 and we will set you up.
Is Toula really beginner friendly?
Yes. Most members started with zero experience. Every class has a beginner path and coaches scale every drill to you.
Where exactly are you?
1856 West Chicago Avenue, Chicago, IL 60622, on the West Town stretch of Chicago Avenue.
